Summary

We had 6 months to migrate a high traffic news portal from a Java based enterprise CMS to a new platform. ISPO wanted to turn from a trade fair to a leading digital publisher. We will show how it was done starting from the evaluation phase to the successful launch - our client will be there to share how they experienced the process and how Drupal improved their daily work compared to the previously used Java-based enterprise CMS.

Description

About ISPO Platform

ISPO is the world’s largest multi-segment exhibition for the sports industry. For almost 50 years, the leading international sports trade fair has shown the entire range of sporting goods, sports shoes and sports fashion as well as the latest trends in these segments. By promoting the evolution of sports, we work continually to encourage sports and their players worldwide.

ISPO.com brings you the most important news, trends and background information from sports and the sports industry. Our integrated service-portfolio creates valuable connections and moments among business professionals and among consumers. 365 days a year. Worldwide.

About the project

We had six months to migrate a high traffic news portal from a Java-based enterprise CMS to a new platform. ISPO wanted to turn from a trade fair to a leading digital publisher. We will show how it was done starting from the evaluation phase to the successful launch - our client will be there to share how they experienced the process and how Drupal improved their daily work compared to the previously used Java-based enterprise CMS.

Key Learnings

Strategy

  • How to find the right solution for a complex multilingual platform
  • License costs vs. customization: Why we used Drupal and not Adobe, Sitecore or Why Drupal and not First Spirit, the system they already use?
  • How to ensure an enterprise level and business critical hosting and development service

Process – how we…

  • evaluated the best solution for the client
  • built the complex platform in six months with a true agile approach
  • managed the challenges to integrate third-party systems such as marketing automation (Eloqua) and translation workflows with external agency partners
  • migrated the existing content (+16.000 pages)

Architecture & Technology

We will briefly explain why and how we based this project on Thunder and build a re-usable content platform with a feature-rich solution for editors with over 50 different paragraph types. We will explain the advantages of using UI Patterns for the theme and talk about the need for implementing special caching mechanisms for the large audience of this website, especially during peak times.

Target audience

  • Business and marketing decision makers planning to migrate to a true customer experience platform
  • Developers, system architects and technology decision makers who want to gain insights for their projects

Everybody who loves Drupal and/or Thunder ;-)
